The Big Question
Someone clever said this, on the Jon Stewart show the other day “You carve through what is known and you reach the coalface of the unknown, and that’s where the research scientist lives and works, and that’s the where the energy is. The edge of human knowledge.”
I find that idea exciting, and i think in that statement lies the engine-room of human progress. It might be asked to what end does the study of religion and ancient texts assist in this search for knowledge, rather than approaching and interacting with that scary, uncertain yet exciting coalface of science. Can progress and knowledge really be forwarded, when at every stage a cap must be doffed to the ultimate answer you already ‘know’?
